Biotope City at Vienna - planning a new innercity neighborhood as nature...

A project for a neighborhood of about 4.000 inhabitants on the former Coca Cola factory site near to the Wienerberg City - and a defitive alternative concept: a model of the dense city as nature.

The daily newspaper 'Der Standard' has published an article about it - click here for the text on "Current" at BIOTOPE CITY JOURNAL (then scroll down).

Already a few month ago the participation proces for residents in the area has startet: this is the poster of invitation for a meeting with the architects, the urban planners, the housing corporations and experts for the local administration:

Working on a Biotope City neighborhood for Vienna on a former industrial area: about 1.300 apartments, a school, a couple of kindergartens, some shops and a small restaurant, all built based on our principles of a dense green city as a habitat for human beings, flora and fauna.
There is a good planning result worked out in a cooperative procedure by a project team formed by 3 architects (Harry Glück, Rüdiger Lainer, BKK3) and a team of advisors (Helga Fassbinder urban planner, Foundation Biotope City - Maria Auböck landscape planner, Bureau Auböck-Kárász - Bernhard Scharf ecologist, Universität f Bodenkultur - Raimund Gutmann sociologist, Wohnbund Wien - Bernd Käfer traffic expert). Meanwhile the residents of the neighborhood have been informed (citizens participation). Now the project is delivered at the administration of the city: the normal planning procedure of has been started. We hope to get a positive result at the end of this year – and then the struggle of realization shall start. This will be a hard fight certainly, not only because of the costs but also because of the regulations of building and fire protection, not used to such a kind of project.
